Welcome to Creative Leaders, the most inspiring and empowering camp experience of the summer—brought to you by the prestigious SMITH Performing Arts Program at MetroPrep.
In just one unforgettable week, kids aged 10–12 will build real confidence, discover how to express their ideas, and learn to speak up proudly—whether in front of a classroom, an audience, or a group of friends.
With a blend of storytelling, leadership games, speech challenges, and fun performance-based activities, this camp is all about helping kids shine—on stage and in life.
Day 1 | Public speaking games – how to talk like a leader! |
Day 2 | Storytelling challenges – make up amazing stories! |
Day 3 | Leadership games – how to lead a team |
Day 4 | Debate battles – who can argue the best case? |
Final Day | Speech & Storytelling Showcase! |
This camp covers a blend of communication and leadership skills, all presented in a fun way. Campers learn how to craft and tell engaging stories, practice public speaking techniques (like voice projection and body language), and even explore elements of debate and persuasive speaking. We also include creative thinking exercises and team challenges that let kids practice leading and collaborating. One day they might work on writing a short speech; another day they could be improvising a story in pairs or solving a group problem. It’s a well-rounded program that keeps kids engaged while they learn valuable skills.
No prior experience is required. We understand that for many kids this will be their first time doing something like this. The camp starts with the basics and builds up gradually. Whether your child has never spoken in front of a group or has some experience from school presentations, they will be comfortable here. We tailor the activities to suit different comfort levels. The supportive environment helps newbies gain confidence quickly, and even those with some experience will find new challenges to expand their skills.
Absolutely. Helping kids overcome public speaking nerves is a big part of what we do. We create a very welcoming and non-judgmental atmosphere. At the start, campers only speak in front of small, supportive groups and we use a lot of fun icebreakers to ease anxiety. As the week goes on and they gain confidence, they’ll gradually take on slightly bigger speaking tasks. Our coaches share tips for managing nerves — like breathing techniques and how to organize your thoughts — in a kid-friendly way.
Not at all. We keep things age-appropriate and comfortable. Throughout the week, the biggest “audience” your child will face is the group of fellow campers, who are all cheering each other on. By the final presentation at the end of the week, we may invite a few family members or other campers to listen, but it’s a very supportive setting, not a large auditorium. We want each child to feel excited, not scared.
Kids should wear comfortable clothes since we’ll be active (playing games, maybe doing a little acting or outdoor activities). There’s no special dress code; just something they can move in and feel good about. We provide all the materials needed for activities (paper, pens, etc.), but if your child has a favourite notebook or journal for jotting down ideas, they can bring it. Definitely pack a water bottle, lunch, and a couple of snacks to keep them fuelled (nut-free lunches/snacks, please). If it’s a sunny day, applying sunscreen in the morning and packing a hat is a smart idea, since we may go outside for breaks or certain exercises. Other than that, just send them with a positive attitude, and we’ll handle the rest!
