Welcome to School of Rockstars, MetroPrep’s electrifying new summer camp where music takes center stage and creativity knows no limits. Brought to you by our SMITH Performing Arts Program, this one-of-a-kind experience lets kids aged 10–12 form a real band, write their own original song, and take the stage for a live performance!
From drums and guitar to piano, bass, and vocals—every camper will jam, write, rehearse, and record like a true rockstar. Along the way, they’ll explore the roots of rock, blues, jazz, pop, and rap—and discover their own musical voice.
Whether they’re beginners or already play an instrument, this camp is about creativity, collaboration, and confidence.
Campers will engage in a wide variety of improv activities throughout the week. They’ll play classic theatre games, participate in funny skits, and practice comedic exercises designed to spark creativity. One day they might play quick-thinking games that encourage silly, on-the-spot responses; another day they might create short scenes or stories in groups. Every activity is hands-on, high-energy, and tailored for kids to learn by doing while having a great time.
Not at all! This camp is designed for beginners as well as kids who’ve had some theatre experience. We start with the basics and make sure everyone feels comfortable, so no prior experience is required. In fact, many of our campers are trying improv for the first time, and our instructors know how to get everyone involved and having fun from day one. If your child has done improv or acting before, we’ll introduce new games and challenges to keep them engaged, but experience is definitely not necessary.
Absolutely. We welcome shy and outgoing kids alike. Our instructors are friendly and patient, and they use games that help even the quietest kids start to participate at their own pace. We never push anyone to perform solo if they’re not ready. Instead, we do lots of group activities and icebreakers so children build confidence gradually.
Improv has so many wonderful benefits. Aside from having a fantastic time, your child will develop better communication skills, quicker thinking, and greater confidence speaking up. They’ll learn to collaborate with others (because improv is all about teamwork) and to adapt to new ideas on the fly. The “yes, and…” mindset we teach helps kids become more positive and open-minded. Many parents notice their children become more creative and outgoing after just this one week of camp.
Campers should wear comfortable clothing that lets them move around easily (no special costume needed). Each day, please pack a nut-free lunch, a couple of snacks, and a refillable water bottle to keep them fuelled and hydrated. We provide all materials and props for games, so you don’t need to send anything else. And of course, bring a big imagination and a sense of humour!
